How it all Began

Written by Ryan on December 22, 2017

Like every great Brewery our story begins with a few good friends and a passion for beer. Jeremy and Mike are brothers in law and have been home brewing beer together for over six years and their labor of love has produced some damn fine beers. Jeremy and Ryan have been friends for six years and have shared a passion for quality beer and strange brews since they met. Jeremy brought Mike and Ryan together in the summer of 2016 and it was love at first site.

As fate would have it the three would start talking about brewing beer and turning that passion into a business at a backyard birthday party in July of 2016, a party that had two of Jeremy’s and Mike’s home brews on tap. At first it was just a dream, but after countless sleepless nights of research, and a lot of pen on paper, the dream slowly turned into a reality.  While Mike is no longer involved with the brewery he was integral in the vision and direction of Anchor Bay Brewing Company, and for that we are forever grateful.

During the early stages of getting the brewery off the ground Ryan bumped into his old friend Shaun while shopping one morning. Shaun and Ryan have been friends for nearly 20 years and as they were catching up and talking beer Ryan told Shaun that he was opening up a brewery just a couple miles from Shaun’s house. Shaun lit up like a Christmas Tree, as he has been home brewing for more than five years and also had aspirations of opening a brewery one day. After just one meeting the three of them knew they had a good thing going and decided to embark on this journey together, and what a crazy journey it has been.

So where does one open a brewery? There are so many variables to answering this question, but at the end of the day the perfect location should speak to you. That is just what happened when we stumbled upon the small waterfront downtown city of New Baltimore in the summer of 2017. Since that time we have been vigorously working, researching, and crunching numbers on how to turn that dream we drew up on paper into a reality of brick and mortar. We still have a long road ahead of us, but we see the light, and it is bright. We implore you to follow us on our journey, and when you see us in the brewery, building that dream, please stop in and say hi.
